Diplomatic World Institute Opens a Permanent Representation in Leipzig

Leipzig is a dynamic city. At first glance, it may come as a surprise that the Brussels-based think tank Diplomatic World Institute has chosen to establish a permanent representation there. A closer look, however, makes the decision clear:

Leipzig, 27th March 2026 – “I have lived in Brussels as a German citizen for over 30 years, and I am delighted to once again have a foothold in Germany,” said Barbara Dietrich, President of the Institute, during the reception marking the official opening of the new location, the first outside Belgium…

…The new representation will be led by Lucille Kristiansen, a young entrepreneur who has significantly shaped Leipzig’s hospitality sector. Just last year, she revitalized the legendary five-star Hotel Fürstenhof Leipzig, which had been closed since the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently underwent extensive renovations. It has now become a truly welcoming destination, one that also serves as a permanent base for the think tank and will host future institute events.

Kristiansen emphasized Leipzig’s growing international importance. The city’s population has now risen to around 633,000, with projections suggesting it could reach up to 720,000 by 2030. This, she noted, underscores the city’s strong appeal. She will also oversee activities for DWI in Berlin, which is just a short distance away.

The reception took place in the hotel’s renowned Serpentine Hall and was well attended, including members of the consular corps from across Germany, as well as representatives of Saxon state politics and the local business community.

The Diplomatic World Institute is a spin-off of Diplomatic World Magazine, which is dedicated to fostering international understanding and has established a global reputation as a platform for dialogue at the intersection of diplomacy, business, and society. The magazine celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
